Black, onyx, raven, ebony, jet– Some people talk about black on black outfits as if they’re boring or taking the easy way out of dressing, but I couldn’t disagree more. In my opinion black is the most versatile and stylish shade. Monochromatic black outfits are always in style, but can change season-to-season based on how they’re styled and accessorized.
Today my boss, Lucy, wore a great entirely black outfit. Lucy combined an oversized black knit sweater with black tights, black booties, and even a black fringe purse. She looked classically chic while maintaining her usual effortless vibe.
Lucy’s style tip: “Don’t be afraid of wearing shorts with tights!” ** Lucy is the owner of Lucia Boutique in downtown Saratoga Springs (NY), and is a seriously stylish chick. Check out Lucy’s official Lucia blog at luciaboutique.blogspot.com.
Not only do real girls on the street love monochromatic black, but the Fall 2011 runways were full of all-black looks, ie: Louis Vuitton Menswear rtw and Balmain rtw.
Celebrities wear all-black pretty regularly as well. Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, and Rihanna show the vast range of black’s versatility- from daytime chic, to party glam, to edgy style.
So in my opinion, a single outfit can never have too many black elements to it. Go black or go home.
